Golden Savanna
We named the music “Golden Savannah” because it brought to mind images of a sun-drenched African plain at mid-day complete with acacia trees and animals. The session was recorded in front of my painting Red Joy, and I integrated the performance footage into the video and used its horizontal striping to indicate layers of terrain. “Golden Savanna” also contains my very first forays into animation of the most basic kind. I found images from Muybridge’s work—how lucky for me that he actually documented an ostrich’s gait as well as other four legged creatures. I used his images as a template for animating … it took less time than working cell by cell, but it was still fairly intensive for me, the beginner!
