From the minute it begins, Sonic Twist’s® “HA” takes the listener into a fantasy game of hide and seek, or perhaps a Halloween gremlin hunt! Vocalist Judi Silvano growls and snickers impishly, while Bruce Arnold’s highly processed guitar summons up alternately marching and running footsteps, sometimes on dry land, sometimes through rainy terrain. In attempting to put a visual to such a bizarre landscape, I took a literal approach and mimicked the delay Judi was using (and which is present in the guitar’s processing as well) by creating a secondary semi opaque layer a microsecond out of sync. The musical action runs in starts and finishes with a slower and slower echoing tempo. Has the gremlin been run to ground, or escaped into the mist?
